We get the number of VM vMotions in VCF Operations, but we don't get the time they occurred, I found a way to determine that with View transformations, here's how!

You can find the number of vMotions on VMs in VCF Operations here.

Hovering over the metric chart will tell you when it occurred.

Which is great, but I'd also like to have that in a Dashboard, so I created a View and used the Maximum Transformation along with the Absolute Timestamp to tell me when it happened.

I added the successful vMotions metric and used the Maximum transformation (over the last 30 days, but you can use whatever interval you'd like) to determine the last vMotion. If one has occurred this value will be 1 (otherwise it will 0). I then added the Absolute Timestamp to tell us when it happened. As you can see in the Preview, for the VM called mongodb-8-1 it shows 1 vMotion which took place on 1.28.2026 at 11:00 GMT.

I used the View and added some context to show this in a Dashboard. As you can see the vMotion timestamp on the left matches the vMotion metric that went from 0 to 1 on the right. If you'd like this Dashboard (and View) you can get them here, enjoy!
