Aria Operations 8.18 dropped last week with a load of new features, this blog will talk about the new capability to include multiple object types in Views, a feature I've been waiting for for a while. For a comprehensive list of what's new, see the Release Notes.
Back in the day, we'd create Super Metrics to attach ascendant/descendant properties/metrics to be included in single Views, we no longer have to do this!
First, I created a View against VMs, you'll notice a dropdown right above the list of metrics/properties.
By default, it's set to Self, and you select whatever metrics/properties you want in your View. But we now have the ability to select related object types and include metrics/properties from them in the same View!
Let's add some ESXi Host Properties to the View.
We can add metrics/properties from Cluster too.
Once saved, let's have a look in full screen.
We now have a list of VMs, the ESXi Hosts they are running on and some details, along with the associated Cluster. Such a great new feature, we've been wanting this for years and it's finally here, thanks Product Managers and Engineers!
One note, this only works for new Views, not Views that were created before 8.18. You'll also notice a change to color schemes in Views, the text doesn't change color anymore, but rather a box with its assocaited color is presented next to the metric/property, which makes it a bit more visible.
