Publishing vRO Workflows to the VCF Automation Service Broker Catalog

I wanted users to be able to create/delete VM Snapshots from the VCF Automation Catalog, here's how I did it. All screenshots here are from VCF Automation 8.18.1, but this would work similarly in VCFA 9.x VM Apps.

VM Snapshots being a day-2 type action, I immediately started looking for vRO Workflows to meet the need. These look like good candidates.

I don't want users to have to log into vRO to run them though, I want them available on the VCFA Service Broker Catalog. So, let's publish them!

Go to Service Broker - Content and Policies - Content Sources and click NEW.

From there select the Orchestrator tile.

Give the Content Source a name and description and click ADD below Workflows.

Select the 2 vRO Workflows to add.

Click ADD.

Click CREATE & IMPORT.

Within a couple minutes you will have both vRO Workflows synced.

Of course this requires the vRO Integration is already in place in Service Broker - Infrastructure - Connections - Integrations.

Go to Service Broker - Content & Policies - Content and you'll see your 2 vRO Workflows.

Select the three dots next to each and click Customize Form.

Click ENABLE at the top and CREATE at the bottom.

Once you click CREATE you'll be able to publish the vRO Workflow to Service Broker Catalog via the VERSION button. Before then the VERSION button will be greyed out.

Give it a Name and click CREATE. At this point, they still won't show in Service Broker Catalog, they need to be shared. Go to Service Broker - Content &. Policies - Policies - Definitions and select your existing Content Sharing Policy.

Click ADD ITEMS in the Content Sharing section.

Select vRO and click ADD ITEMS then click SAVE.

Back in Service Broker - Catalog we now see them.

Let's try to create a VM Snapshot, click the REQUEST button at the bottom of that tile.

Give it a Deployment Name then click into the Machine field which will present you with a list. Navigate down to the VM you want to take a Snapshot of, mine is under Machines - Unmanaged, as this particular VM I created outside of VCFA. Check the box next to it and click SELECT.

Fill out the rest of the form and click SUBMIT. Once completed it'll look like this.

Over in vCenter we can now see our new VM Snapshot.

For good measure, let's delete it from VCFA. Selected the Delete Machine Snapshot from the Catalog and fill out the form.

When you click into the Machine field it'll prompt you for the VM and Snapshot Name you want to delete, I selected the one we just created. Click SELECT. Then click SUBMIT.

Once complete it will look like this. Over in vCenter you will see it's gone.
