VM Rightsizing Minimums in VCF Operations

One of the top use cases for VCF Operations is VM Rightsizing, our ability to make recommendations on the size of your VMs. We've discussed this a few times over the years:

A recent ask was to find the minimum rightsizing recommendations for VMs over time, to be used in a conservative approach to rightsizing. Here's how we did it.

My first thought was a Super Metric using the "min" function, but Super Metrics don't support time series data (data over time). So, I used a View Transformation, here's how.

I selected the VM vCPU and Memory Rightsizing Reduction Metrics and used the Transformation to find their minimum over time. You can configure the timeframe over which that minimum is determined in step 3 or you can tell the List View Widget to use Dashboard Time.

As you can see I've built a Dashboard with more information about the VMs in question. Once you select a VM you get to see the vCPU and Memory reduction recommendations over time, including their minimums over that time. This is a good way to take a conservative approach to rightsizing VMs. Hope this was helpful, enjoy!
