We discussed vSphere Tags on Clusters a few months ago, but there is a better way to do this using vSphere Custom Attributes, here's how!

Log into vCenter and navigate to the Cluster you want to put Custom Attributes on. Go to the Summary tab and find the Custom Attributes tile.

ree

Click EDIT, which will give you the opportunity to add a new Attribute at the top.

ree

My Attribute is called Test and I've given it Type of Cluster, if you choose Global it'll create the Custom Attribute for all Object Types. Click ADD.

Once added, you can give it a Value.

ree

Click SAVE and back on the Cluster Summary page it'll show like this.

ree

Over in VCF Operations we can now see these Cluster Custom Attributes, they show as Custom Tags.

ree

So powerful! Back in vCenter I've created several more Cluster Custom Attributes which enrich the already existing Properties.

ree

Back in VCF Operations, they look like this.

ree

You'll notice them on the Cluster Summary Page too.

ree

We can use them in Dashboards (and Views) to enrich the user experience as well, something like this.

So powerful: Custom Attributes, use them!
