Monitoring Instanced Metrics with Aria Operations
We can monitor Linux filesystems and Windows drives in Aria Operations with Alerts using Symptoms and instanced metrics, as detailed here . This allows you to monitor every Linux fileystem and every Windows Drive across your environment. By default there is one Alert monitoring all Linux fileystems and Windows drives, shown below. As you can see, it's defined by two Symptoms, each with a different threshold. Looking at the Symptoms in more detail we can see Operations is e

Aria Operations Super Metric for VM Guest Filesystem/Drive Free %
Aria Operations does a nice job of getting Guest Filesystem/Drive related metrics, specifically Total Capacity, Utilization, and Utilization (%). If you Activate the Instanced State for these metrics you'll get them for filesystem/drive instances, think Windows drives (D:\, E:\, ...) and Linux Filesystem (/, /boot, /tmp, ...) You'll notice there are metrics for File System Free, but none for File System Free %, which is what I want. So, let's create a Super Metric. First g

Download Reports via the Aria Operations API
I was trying to download a Report via the Aria Operations API recently and noticed a couple things I'd like to share. Let's have a look. There are a handful of Reports available as PDF and/or CSV. You can see them via API here. Looking more closely for the Powered Off VMs Report, you can see the Report and its id. This id is what you'll use to download the Report via GET /api/reports/{id}/download. You'll notice I've executed the call and it's given me my Report via the "Dow

All screenshots in this blog will be taken from Operations 8.18.2. The Most Commonly Created Super Metric in Aria Operations
We've discussed Aria Operations Super Metrics several times before, but haven't gone into details on the most commonly created Super Metric, which is the Super Metric created on a parent object type to sum (or max/min/etc) a certain metric or property of all children. Let's have a look. Say for example you want to sum the number of VM vCPUs on an ESXi Host, or Cluster, or Datacenter, or Custom Group containing VMs. Some of these totals are provided out of the box, but other

Aria Operations Diagnostics Revisited
Diagnostics was introduced in Aria Operations 8.18, which we've discussed previously . It's garnered a lot of attention since then, was updated in the most recent Aria Operations 8.18.2 release , and deserves an update, so here goes. Let's discuss each of the 9 tiles, starting top left with Overall Findings. As the information bubble indicates: these are active findings based on properties and logs. To be a bit more specific they are based on two groups: Properties captur

Monitoring vCenter Services with Aria Operations
The SDDC Health Management Pack gave us some visibility into vCenter Services, but it wasn't super intuitive. The VMware Infrastructure Health Management Pack gave us more, but Aria Operations Diagnostics (introduced in 8.18) is the latest evolution in monitoring vCenter Services, and it's the best yet, let's explore! If you're running Operations 8.18 or beyond, you will notice Diagnostics, which brings visibility into all sorts of different items, vCenter Services being o
